Here’s what you need to look out for to ensure your home stays in top shape during construction of your new home build.

Cover Floor Vents

Your home’s HVAC vents are installed early, and without protection, they’ll collect dust, debris, and even construction waste. Once your system is up and running, all that mess gets blown through your ducts, reducing air quality and potentially causing long-term damage. Covering floor vents with plastic or temporary covers prevents this issue before it becomes a problem.

Threshold Protection

Doors often get installed early in construction, long before the rest of the home is finished. That means they’re exposed to heavy foot traffic, tools, and materials being dragged in and out of the house. Without protection, thresholds can become scratched, dented, or even broken before you ever move in.

An easy solution is to use scrap wood to create a simple cover for the threshold, protecting it from damage caused by extension cords, compressor hoses, and muddy boots.

Bathtub Protection

Bathtubs can take serious damage during the construction phase. Many builder-grade homes end up with tubs full of debris, covered in scratches, or even used for holding trash!

Investing in tub protection is a must. Tub Armor is a budget-friendly option, but the most effective method is using foam covered with OSB (oriented strand board) to create a sturdy shield.
