Here are four must-have back porch outlets you’ll be glad you added during your new home build:

1. High Outlet for String Lights
Want warm string lights hanging overhead? You’ll need a high outlet specifically for those lights. The key is to connect it to a switch inside the house, so you can turn them on and off without dragging out the ladder every time. It’s a small touch, but it’ll save you a ton of hassle. It’ll also be easier to set up a Lutron smart switch for automation.

2. Outlet for Porch Heater
These heaters often need to be hardwired and pull a lot of electricity, so make sure your builder knows in advance. You’ll need a 240-volt wire, and it’ll need its own dedicated line from the electrical panel. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did this once those chilly nights roll around.

3. TV Outlet
This one might seem like a no-brainer, but if you’re planning on having a TV on the porch, don’t forget a dedicated outlet. To keep things looking sleek, opt for a recessed box, which allows the TV to sit flush against the wall without cords sticking out awkwardly. And while you're at it, consider an Ethernet cable for a more stable internet connection. Because nobody wants to deal with buffering during the game.

4. Outlet for a Pellet Grill
For all the BBQ enthusiasts out there, this one’s for you. If you're planning on having a pellet grill, make sure to put an outlet in just the right spot. You’ll likely want the ability to roll your smoker out into the open air, so your attic or porch roof doesn’t end up full of smoke. Proper outlet placement can make grilling and smoking a breeze, without the headache of running extension cords across the patio.

These are just a few of the back porch outlets you’ll want to consider, but there are plenty more ideas for the rest of the house.
