You’re going to want to make sure you don’t miss these important features when building your new home.

1. Underground Gutter Drains

Without proper drainage, water can erode your foundation, flood your yard, and damage landscaping. Installing underground gutter drains early ensures that rainwater is directed away from your home, keeping your property dry and protected.  It saves you from costly repairs later. It’s not allowed in every location so bring it up to your builder early to see if it’s allowed.

2. Awnings Over Exterior Doors

Awnings over exterior doors keep you dry while preventing water and sun damage to your door frames over time. They also add a visual element that enhances your home’s exterior, while serving a practical purpose.

3. Mantel Outlet for Christmas Lights

Having a dedicated outlet above your mantel allows you to plug in lights or other seasonal decorations without running unsightly extension cords across the room. It keeps things tidy and hassle-free during the festive season.

4. Wiring for a Lighted Makeup Mirror

Pre-wiring for a lighted makeup mirror means you’ll have the perfect lighting for your morning routine without having to add it later. This small addition ensures better visibility for grooming and applying makeup, right where you need it.

If you don’t want permanent wiring. Consider this rechargeable make-up mirror.

5. Wiring for a Towel Warmer

Including wiring for a towel warmer. Towles are warm when you need them but also dries them dry faster, especially important for those living in a humid climate. Consider the location of the wiring so you have a seamless look. This towel warmer has the wiring located on the bottom right corner. Much cheaper to have this installed now than later.

6. Front Porch Gas Lanterns

Gas lanterns bring timeless elegance to your home’s exterior. While they’re more of an aesthetic choice, there’s something undeniably charming about the warm glow of gas lanterns on a cozy front porch. You can choose between the manual light or switch operated.

7. Hot Water Recirculation System

A hot water recirculation system gives you instant hot water whenever you turn on the tap, whether it’s for your kitchen sink or morning shower. This feature saves water, time, and reduces energy costs by minimizing heat loss from standing water in the pipes.

Don’t Stop There!

These are just a few must-haves for your home, but there’s more to consider. Think about installing a garage floor drain for easy cleaning, a robot vacuum cubby for hidden storage, and choosing the perfect ceiling texture to finish off your space.
